Fallen Earth makes female avatars more "feminine".

September 25, 2009

According to Massively, Fallen Earth has made changes to their female avatars to differentiate them from the male avatars more.   My favorite quote is:
“Fallen Earth has never been about the sexiness of its females,” said product manager Jessica Orr, “but after some comments from fans and a hard look at the female faces, we decided [...]

Aion: Things I'm Enjoying

September 25, 2009

Everyone is saying that Aion brings very little new to the table.  No one is mind blown with the game.  I’m certainly not mind blown either, and I agree that the game isn’t particularly innovative.  However, I am actually having fun.  Color me surprised.
Looks, feel, environment:
I’ll just lump these all in together and not say [...]

CuppyFact: Death Becomes Her

September 24, 2009

Little known fact about me.  If I die in an MMO (or in fact, any RPG or game EVER) there is at least a 50% chance I will logout and never log into the game ever again.  If it’s a console RPG where I forgot to save and I have to repeat content (like say, [...]

September 22, 2009

I’m sure the #EAFail fiasco is still fresh in everyone’s mind.  This was the promotion ran by EA at San Diego Comic Con that encouraged men to take pictures of themselves doing “lude acts” with booth babes.  Well, Joystiq is doing something honorable.
They were send a $200 check by EA as part of a marketing [...]

Gender Roles, Game Developers, and Ethics

September 17, 2009

There’s a post over on GameCritics.com that irks me quite a bit.  The author of the article is basically calling out another author on GameCritics for accusing game developers of not respecting feminist views, equality, and gender roles.  The author posts an interesting question, which is – “Are Game Developers Ethically Responsible for Gender Roles [...]

Dollars and cents.

September 16, 2009

Some interesting revenue numbers and monetization results have come out Austin GDC.  (which I am super sad to not be attending this year…)
Here are some of the more interesting points:

EA is targeting a 7-8% conversion rate for free to play games, but expects that to lower to 5% with social network traffic
Top merchant in Second [...]
