Today, November 20th, is the International Transgender Day of Remembrance. It’s the day for silent vigils, for dedicating a candle in memory of all of the people who have been murdered simply because of their gender identity. Because someone wasn’t comfortable in their presence. Because someone didn’t understand about gender spectrums and the desire to feel like you represent on the outside the same gender that you feel you are on the inside. There were an astronomical amount of hate crimes that resulted in transgender men and women being brutally killed, just in the last year alone. It’s sad that this holiday needs to exist.
One of our longtime alpha/beta testers, Chooseareality, built a beautiful memorial event for TDoR in the Metaequality Center. The world has been around for awhile, and is a “safe space” for LGBT folks and their allies to hang out in Metaplace.
For Transgender Day of Remembrance, Chooseareality and another member, Lostbetween, made a candlelight vigil. The world was darkened, and there are candles that you can click on and place in the world wherever you choose. There is a beautiful cemetery with headstones dedicated to people who were murdered for being trans. There is a video you can watch from the HRC about the holiday.
This world is embedded below, so RSS readers – click through! Otherwise, you can visit the Metaequality Center here to light a candle in memory.
