MyTribe is a brand new game that just launched on Facebook, and holy crap it’s gorgeous and fun. MyTribe is made by Big Fish Games, the makers of Faunasphere. I’m sharing this here, because it’s complex enough that it feels almost like a “next-gen” Facebook game that even traditional gamers would enjoy.
If you’re into “godding” type games like Black and White or Populous, this is probably right up your alley. The entire point of the game is that you have an island with inhabitants and you have to grow the tribe and make it prosper. It is actually one of the more complicated Facebook games, which many mechanics that are above and beyond conventional farming games. Each inhabitant on your island has a job, and levels, and specializations. You can level them up and put points in a specialty like farming, fishing, constructing. You can have your people breed with each other to make babies. There are farms to tend, buildings to construct, decorations, clothing. There is inventory for harvesting and crafting.
MyTribe was originally released as a downloadable PC game in 2008, and you can see they tacked some social features onto the game. I don’t think this is necessarily a bad thing, it is a truly complex and engaging game that traditional gamers will enjoy. It’s fun, absolutely beautiful art-wise, and has endless things to do. Go try it.
It’s not multiplayer, but you can add neighbors and visit their tribes. I don’t have much more time to write about it, but there’s a great full write up here on Inside Social Games. GO TRY IT!
