I made it!!
After driving 900 miles on Monday, 600 on Tuesday, and 450 today – we have finally arrived here in San Diego! The drive was absolutely gorgeous (well, other than going through Nebraska and Iowa) and everything went smooth as silk. I’m now settled in with my first decent drink in my new home while chilling out on an air mattress. Unfortunately, the majority of everything I own is coming on the truck on Saturday the 28th, which means almost two weeks of ‘roughing it’. I am, however, very excited that I live right across the street from a GameStop, a Jamba Juice, and a Chipotle. In addition, I finally ventured into the famed Fry’s which was every bit as exciting as I had hoped. There is something amazing about a store that sells electronics and geekware AND has beautiful tanks of saltwater fish. Pretty sure I’m going to start hanging out there.
My dog has settled right in as well – she already picked a fight with a neighbor’s Boston Terrier. Leave it to dogs to make mortal enemies for their owners right away. I’m trying to get caught up on all my feeds and read all the good stuff that everyone has been talking about, so hopefully I’ll kick back in with some on-topic commentary soon.
I do want to mention that I’m planning to stop by the IGDA Mixer get together thing at Callahan’s in Mira Mesa tomorrow night. Come up and say hello if you see me – I’ll be the one saying “yah” and “you betcha.”
And finally, thanks to those of you who came to my going away party on Saturday. I apologize in advance for my incoherence near the end, but I hope that everyone had a great time. If Kendricke stops being a slacker, perhaps I could show the pictures that were taken of us nerds. It was a great turnout, and I appreciate those of you who came =) On that note, I’ve crossed Brent off my Christmas list.

Glad to see you got there safetly..shame I live across the pond, no chance for the party!
Good to see the trip was uneventful, and all arrived safe and sound.
I’m sure Brent had a good reason, btw. No idea what it was, mind you… but I’m sure it was good. After all, as he pointed out, he’s going to see you in a week or so anyway, whenever the Fan Faire is…
Going to be at AGDC, perhaps? If so, keep an eye out, I may be waving at you from the cheap seats…
Your Fry’s has reef supplies??!
Man I thought ours here in Atlanta was Mecca, but that may take the cake.
Nice, Tami. Let us know how the new job goes. Send me an ewok if you can smuggle one out.
Huzzah! Welcome to San Diego!
No matter what the people tell ya, In & Out Burgers really isn’t all that special. Dell Taco on the other hand, rules the cheap tacos market!
Thanks guys!!
Grim – I ate at an In & Out Burger last time I was down here, and I was NOT impressed. Although, I didn’t know about all the secret codes there are for ordering stuff.
I haven’t tried Del Taco yet, but I did hit up Panda Express last night which was frickin awesome.
Cyanbane – they have saltwater aquariums in the store filled with all sorts of awesome huge saltwater fish. They don’t sell the reef equipment as far as I noticed.
Daminov – I don’t think there are plans for me going to AGC. We will see though =)
Welcome to San Diego Cuppy! You are going to love the weather here all year around. Well, except for June gloom that is.
Thanks Menion!
What is “June Gloom”?
The marine lair rolls in off the ocean and stays put on the coast for most of the month. It’s not as bad as it sounds really, and in land it’s not even a factor. I just work on Coronado Island so it affects me every year.
It is cool driving over the Coronado Bridge and coming out on top of the marine lair as you cross the top of the bridge though!

Also, to Grimwell Dell Taco is BLAH! I mean seriously who eats fries with a burrito? Unless of course you are drunk at the time in which case it’s completely acceptable.
WOOT! Welcome to California!!!!
Beware of fry’s. Do not ever ever ever buy hardware there. Unless you plan ahead for 2 or 3 trips back and forth to get stuff that actually works. But other than that fry’s is a kickass place
I never thought that much of In-n-Out either. Fudd’s is an SOE staple, though, as is that Chipotle on Mira Mesa.
My favorite carne asada is at the little Mexican place in the same building as the Shell station just off the corner of Mira Mesa and Camino Santa Fe. Oh. My. God. I miss that place.
Maybe you should come back to SD Steve, all problems solved =)
Ahhh the Fry’s in Palo Alto has cowboys…. and all the new computer are set up on train mine car that end in some huge cave… (the back rooms of the store)… And it huge here i believe it is bigger than the walmart here
Ya, I would definitely not buy any hardware at Frys. Usually when I need a computer part and I dont’ want to order it online I just go to PCclub in Clairemont Mesa.
And if you are looking for PC parts in town check out computoredge.com they have a publication that a lot of the local PC stores carry and advertise in.
Welcome to San Diego! I’ve lived here for almost 10 years now. The best thing about it is the weather! You can go swimming 12 months a year!
Anyway, which Fry’s are you talking about? The one off Aero Drive doesn’t have fish. It used to be the old Incredible Universe (The delivery trucks still say Incredible Universe). I buy stuff from there when it’s on sale, but stay away from the boxes with the “extra” sticker on it, that means someone returned it and they just put it back on the shelf.
Are you going to the SOE block party on Saturday, July 28? If so, my family will be there.
