AGDC Information

by Cuppycake on August 24, 2007

Alright, flight is booked and I am scheduled to attend Austin Game Developers Conference.  Here is a list of panels/keynotes that I am particularly looking forward to:

Playing Nice With Alternative Media – This is a panel that features my pal Brent from VirginWorlds, in addition to Elizabeth Harper of WoWInsider, Michael Zenke of MMOGNation/Slashdot and Alan Crosby of SOE.  Definitely an interesting subject matter that I am dearly familiar with.

“A blended panel of industry and independent bloggers and podcasters will discuss the pros and cons of interfacing with alternative gaming press.”

Community Management 101 – Design, Maintenance, and Growth -  Clearly this one is going to appeal to me, as I am going through all stages of this Community Management lifecycle with Areae.  It is also masterminded by good friend Craig.   Can’t wait for this one.

Identifying, Engaging and Empowering Community Influencers -  Good stuff here.  I was previously a SOE Influencer and I am a big fan of that program and the focus that it has brought towards a very important demographic.  I’ve also had the opportunity to meet Troy and EM and they were both awesome.

Others that interest me are:

F2P/Microtransaction Games: Considerations, Risks, and Rewards

Embracing Web 2.0: Applying Web 2.0 Success to the MMO Space

Then of course, the ones that Mr. Koster is partaking in =)  A list of those is here.

For anyone going to AGDC, a couple of us are going to get together and chat about the head-on-collision between games and Web 2.0. Come along and see if you can outdo everyone else by picking an even larger number and sticking it on the end of a word (why stop at Games 3.0? Let’s go to a hundred!).

There will be no free drinks. No free food. And definitely no cabaret/live entertainment/superstar DJ’s. But hopefully there will be some interesting and friendly people with a shared interest here.

Currently looking at probably Wednesday after the last session. It’s tricky, because CMP still hasn’t said what time they’re doing most of their own events yet :( (if anyone knows times for all the stuff on the Austin GDC site that’s “details will be announced soon” please let me know!)

Nothing since that I’ve seen, but the mailing list has been pretty spotty. Just thought it might be of interest…
