New theme!

by Cuppycake on August 28, 2007

I got a new theme! I don’t care if you don’t like it, most of you don’t actually look at my site anyway thanks to Google Reader.

Anyway, this one is cuter. It’s not black. The area for text is wider so it looks nicer. I’m a fan of it for now, but I get bored constantly. Right now, this one rocks. =)

Edit: Hm…for some reason it was switching back on its own back to the default theme.  I just went in and deleted the default theme – so hopefully it won’t do it anymore.  But if for some reason you come here and read this post and you see my same old black/green theme, there is something wrong with it.   =(

I’m hearing (and seeing) that it looks awful in IE.

There’s always a downside. I need a web expert. FIX IT! =(

Websites are supposed to look awful in IE. You didn’t know that?

Ack, blinding naked brightness! I think I see myself or a white nipple, either I suspect my retina is damaged. It is shiny though and I haven’t seen this one around. It is hard to find a original theme you like when other jerkfaces in the same circle equip the one you so lustfully desire.

Please stop the “install FireFox” stupidity.

According to stats from http://www.thecounter.com/stats/2007/August/browser.php 13% use FireFox and 71% use Internet Explorer (51% IEX 6 and 20% IEX 7). Only a fool would not care to make this look good on IEX too.

That I use FireFox myself has little to do with the argument. Think about it: What does it mean to disregard how 71% perceives the page.

A great look Cuppy! I really like it. Good use of colors that are not used that often. It is HARD to get any green look nice.

I like the Header Picture, though not a fan of the color scheme :)

I’m not a fan of the huge headers, but I cant deny that it looks good here. nice choice Cuppy and props to Jinsona on creating the theme.

Search feature is nice up there as well.

Beautiful new theme! Very stylish. And black-on-white is much easier on the eyes. Not normally a fan of green in color schemes, but you’ve done great things with it!

It looks better than the old theme and more to the point is easier to read.
It looks fine in Opera.

Looks nice Cuppy.

As for IE, in my IE7 the right hand side panels do not render properly, the background partially is rendered above the text – text is only shown when you do a mouseover. Looks perfectly fine in Firefox ;)

Looks good in IE. As Sente said, the side panels are a little off, but not annoyingly so. I like the picture at the top. And the white background does seem to make it easier to read.

@Akely,

Don’t be so quick to throw around browser statistics. I run around 10 large websites in addition to my gaming blog and browser percentages can vary widely depending on your sites audience. Most of mine range between 30-50% Firefox, and 50-65% IE depending on the site.

As for the theme, it does look nice, just too bad about the CSS or HTML issues on the side panel. Even the designer of the theme has the same problem on their website and likely all the themes with the side panel. :(

According to stats … What does it mean to disregard how 71% perceives the page.

Worldwide browser statistics are completely irrelevant to 99% of websites worldwide. The remaining 1% are grand portals such as Yahoo! and Google which actually receive traffic from a worldwide audience.

The only valid reason why the web design community often concerns themselves with worldwide browser statistics is that data suggests the browsers with which web designers should be most familiar.

The browser statistics that matter are those that are specific to a particular website. Using worldwide browser data to identify your target platforms is much like using worldwide market research to identify your total addressable market. In truth, when you’re “already in business” in a manner of speaking, you should design for the audience you have, not for the audience you dream of having.

The only thing *I* personally care about is the percentage of MY readers who use IE, which according to AWStats is 49.8%. 35.3% are on Firefox, 12% are ‘unknown browsers’ and 2.2% are using Opera.

49.8% is a huge number of people who see something ugly on my page =(

31 Akely August 29, 2007 at 2:23 pm

yeah… I’ll calm myself a little. Did not mean to come across like a zealot, or something.

Good you got the stats (or rather facts) on THIS site, Cuppy. And it sure looks MMO’rs can keep the Geek Cards. :-)

This was great: “Worldwide browser statistics are completely irrelevant to 99% of websites worldwide. ” Very funny. Almost as good as the best parenting advice I got: “Do not listen to advice.” Good one, Morgan. :-)

Viewing the page in IEX7… it is not “ugly”. It is merely lacking. The content is there, and content is King.

*sigh* Content is NOT king. That’s the second time I’ve read that fallacy in the last ten minutes.

Reply

34 Cuppycake August 29, 2007 at 5:21 pm

I’m sorry Morgan, but if we’re talking about my blog, in which the sole purposes are to incite discussion, provide news, and display my insight – the content IS king. I don’t think you could make an argument that the looks of a blog matter more than what is discussed on it – especially considering the fact that 50% of people read through an RSS reader anyway and don’t even view the theme.

Nobody goes to a blog to oogle over the innovative design of the site. They go to read what you have to say – and argue that all you want, you won’t win =P
