Peggle on XBLA

by Cuppycake on January 9, 2008

To continue my series of posts about Peggle, the ridiculously addicting casual puzzle game by PopCap Games:

Peggle is coming to Xbox Live Arcade!!! I was literally just commenting on this a couple nights ago after playing my new favorite puzzle game, Carcassonne. Looks like it has been confirmed for a Q2 release – I can’t wait. Achievements, here I come! =)

Update: Peggle is indeed headed to Xbox Live Arcade and is tentatively slated for a Q2 release, a PopCap representative has confirmed to Shacknews.Original Story: PopCap’s ultra-addictive and mega-colorful casual gaming sensation Peggle is on its way to the Xbox 360, according a listing on the Entertainment Software Rating Board web site.

Though not officially confirmed, the title is expected to be a downloadable Xbox Live Arcade game, as past PopCap Xbox 360 releases, such as Zuma, have been. It has been assigned an “E for Everyone” rating.

Previously released on PC, Mac, and the iPod, the Pachinko-like skill-based offerings of Peggle have won over many a cold-hearted gamer despite its use of unicorns, rainbows, and Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy.” A mature Half-Life themed version, dubbed Peggle Extreme, was included with PC copies of Valve’s The Orange Box (PC, PS3, X360) last year.

As pointed out by Xbox 360 Fanboy, other previously unannounced and E-rated Xbox 360 titles on the ESRB’s site include Bliss Island from Codemasters and Majesco’s Ultra Bust-A-Move, the latter of which could indicate a downloadable version of the original Xbox edition through Microsoft’s recent Xbox Originals program.

I keep hearing about peggle and I’m looking foward to trying this one out on my 360. I played Zuma a ton and really like what popcap does in the casual gaming space.

Best thing about 360/XBLA is the ability to demo a game before paying for it.

Count me among the Peggle addicted. It’s perfect on my laptop while I’m watching TV.
