I was so excited to log on last night and start out Inscription, and encountered one of the worst patches I’ve ever experienced. Granted, it’s one of the biggest patches probably in MMO history (and a complicated one at that) but I was so irritated last night with the problems.
First, I couldn’t log in for hours and I was stuck on either “Retrieving Character List” or stuck on the loading screen. When I finally did get in, I had so much lag in Orgrimmar that I couldn’t even do any inscription aside from milling 5 stacks of herbs. I decided to try to go to Undercity, so I hopped on the zeppelin and tried to go over there. I fell through the Zeppelin out into the sea (anyone remember when this used to happen constantly back in 2004?) and then Kalimdor promptly shut down and has been down since last night around 9pm Pacific. Luke was playing on Eastern Kingdoms fine last night and I couldn’t get on =(
Anyway, I was eager to get my Inscription maxed but I guess it’s not going to happen like I thought. I can’t help but wonder just how complicated a task it was to do a patch that had no real test environment since the PTR contains ALL of WotLK and they were just migrating SOME of it to live servers. I’m have no doubt they did internal testing, but it seems like the load of all the players combined with things like the achievement system calculating achievements just caused for chaos. Anyway, maybe tonight will be better – but considering Kalimdor is still down and I can’t even log in – I’m just going to wait a while.

sorry Cuppy
that’s rough stuff
WAR servers went down for a patch, and *shock* came back up in the alotted time. No delays. No problems.
WTF is wrong Blizzard?
/laugh at cubicle neighbor who couldnt log in last night to WoW
I understand what you are saying cuppy. But you need to remember what happens on Content publish days. All players who play the game are trying to log in on content day.
Oh, come on heartless_. You’re just reaching for something to attack WoW with by dropping that comment.
WAR has never had a patch of this magnitude and it’s not like this happens often, if it ever has (I can’t remember a time) in WoW. I’m willing to bet part of the problem was the sheer number of people trying to log in at the same time. I know at least 10 people who were waiting for this patch to come back to WoW and I’m sure there were thousands of others.
Sure, it’s disappointing and frustrating when you can’t log in, but the end result will be worth it. This patch has made every class I have 10x more fun to play.
Well, the PTR I was on (European) did not contain any WotLK content beside the 3.0.2 mechanics (including Inscription).
That didn’t stop the usual suspects from constantly asking “where are teh death knights???!!!” and “where can i get to nothrend??!!”. But that came to the live realms as well…
I wish you luck, I did’t have major problems. Not many working addons, temporarily screwed economics due to thousands byuing low-level-herbs and so on aside.
