EQ2 May Producer Letter

by Cuppycake on May 3, 2007

The EQ2 May producer letter was released today, which brings some incredibly exciting news!  Apparently on the way (and soon, as its already going to Test server on Friday) is a new race and new adventure areas.  The new race is the awaited “Dark Fae”, called Arasai.  Honestly, I think that race was MADE for me.  I think the Fae are absolutely adorable, but I always wanted to be able to make them look more evil and less happy and cheerful.  Big cheers to SOE for this.

Some good things about this:
1) Neriak.  Enough said.  Nothing brings back nostalgia for me quite like Neriak.
2) Art being done by the EQ2 Taiwan team – responsible for the Fallen Dynasty adventure pack.  Their art is among the best in EQ2 and I can’t wait to see what they’ve done with Neriak.
3) New race means a new alt for me!
4) More lore.  I’ve always loved the Everquest storyline and I’m excited to see where the story goes.
5) $$$$  Possibly the best thing, its free. $$$$

They sure are doing things smart.  Releasing Echoes of Faydwer with not only a bunch of new nostalgic zones in combination with a new race for people to come back and level up..that was brilliant for bringing in new players.  Doing it again with a new race and new starting zones that bring back memories – that’s genius.  And this time its free..doesn’t get much better than that.

I’m excited, but sad at the same time… i love all my characters, And would love to have the new race…. i would love another character slot, of the ability to pay like a one time fee of 20 or something like that for the character slot so i don’t have to pick a character to delete

Are you frickin serious??

I had to check the date and make sure it wasn’t April Fools…

SOE is just on fire with all of this stuff. Greta news.

I agree with all of the above. I just re-activated my EQ2 account after a year of inactivity and things are looking great so far.

I love that they appear not to be giving up on this franchise. Even though a lot of people hated it at launch, I still thought it had a good base to build on. Enough for me to play a year before making the switch to WoW.

The only think that’s killing me, as ogre mentioned, is the 6 character limit. I’m not ready to delete all my old characters in order to make room for new ones. So much has changed since launch, I have to relearn all my classes.

Would it really kill them to allow more characters per account?

On a slightly unrelated note, does anybody have any comments on the state of the raiding game? Back when I played, in addition to the performance issues I found that most of the raids were the same as normal areas just the mobs had more health and hit harder. Have things gotten better on that front?

I loved zones like Nek castle but many of the raids I went on left something to be desired.
