I am probably the ultimate MMO tourist, I check just about everything out. The only game that I’ve stayed subscribed to constantly since 2004 is World of Warcraft, and I have a VERY weird relationship with it.
My main server has been Malfurion for the past couple of years, but after a guild fall-out I transferred Pawtopsy to Proudmoore a couple of months ago. I joined up with Taint, a GIGANTIC Horde LGBT-friendly social guild. No, seriously, gigantic. So huge, that they had to create 9 guilds because Blizzard has a member cap of 500 on guilds. So I am in Taint proper because I’m level 80, but there is another guild for level 80 called Tainted. For all the other level ranges there is The Tainted Ones, Tainted Nights, Tainted Love, and Tainter Tots. There is also the raiding guilds called Raiders of da Lost Taint, Taint of Madness, and Taint Invaders.
How does this guild handle this? Very carefully. We use an addon called Guild2Guild that uses designated relays to turn our guild chat into ONE BIG CHAT. That’s right, 6-7 guilds talking on one guild channel. At any given time, each guild has 40 to 50 people online, so that is a LOT of chat. It is not for the antisocial, that’s for sure. Being an adult guild, the conversation ranges from mature to obscene, but it is pretty awesome. There are always groups, there is always people to talk to. I’m really enjoying it, despite rarely logging in which makes me a face in the crowd. Proudmoore is very light on the Horde side, so it literally feels like 3/4 of the Horde I run into are in one of the Taint family of guilds. It’s basically a General Chat or LFG channel that doesn’t suck because douchebags aren’t allowed.
It’s a much different way of playing, for sure. I’m used to knowing everyone in the guild very well. But since I only hop in a couple times a week, I like there to always be people online to talk to and group with. Taint has solved that problem for me, at least until I want to play a ton more with RL friends. The guild website has all of our info, charter, and FAQ’s.
