I have been thinking a lot lately about the void in blogging to really target some issues that I think are glazed over in other game journalism. I’m talking gay issues, alternative culture, transgender issues, feminism, politics, equality, etc. and how they relate to video games, online worlds, and social media. I have been attempting to transition this blog to become that kind of place, and I need some help!
If you are into any of the following:
- Gay & transgender issues
- Gender stereotypes
- Politics
- Feminism
- Women
…and you’re into video gaming, social media, and/or virtual worlds…
Please contact me: cuppycake at cuppycake dot org. Depending on the number of people I have interested, I may start doing some guest blogging here and there or open up a new domain and blog strictly targeted at that sort of blogging. (think Jezebel for gaming) Is there interest out there? Men, don’t feel excluded – you’re welcome to as long as you identify as feminist and fit the requirements above. Note: this is on a volunteer basis.
Hope to hear from some of you soon!

Oh, superb! I am into gender representation in games and online worlds, but I haven’t the sort of informed voice that could likely sustain a column, let alone my own blog. Nevertheless I hope this can kick off. It sounds like a very exciting and positive project – bravo, Cuppy.
Aw Sinnyo, you never know until you try!
I think you could have fun with it!
Y’know, I reckon I shall. And hey, I can now watch and learn.
Video games only? What about roleplaying games? I only dabble in video games, but I regularly play tabletop games and LARPs.
I’m always about five years behind on my video games, alas, but I’d totally be interested!
I actually think that would be VERY interesting Havoc! Send me an email
@Isabel Kunkle Whatever you like, though, with video games, you know? I still play Arcanum, because it’s just plain awesome, plot-wise, and that came out in 2001.
This sounds like a very interesting idea! I don’t play that many games, but I’m totally hooked on WoW. And have a macro set up for when people talk about rape in the usual gaming way. I’ve broken it out twice, so far…
This sounds like a great idea! Weird tho, gaming seems like such an easy target cos it’s SO behind in gender politics, partially cos character development is so very poor in games, but with people talking about games rivalling cinema (in artistic merit maybe, in profits definitely!) and people begining to take it as seriously as cinema, maybe it’s time to stop recycling the same stereotypical characters which are mostly stolen from a small amount of action/horror/sci-fi films in the first place!
